Jon Gary

Jon Oscar Gary (AKA JG) largely writes narratives and specs about his students’ generation , which represents diverse black and brown female, Gen Z, Alpha Gen, LGBTQIA, and disabled communities. A middle-aged Black man, with the present COVID-19 crisis in the black community and the world at large, J.G. believes his voice of wisdom could be a support in many writing rooms seeking diversity and multiple viewpoints. A winner of many film awards and recognitions, JG’s most notable accomplishment was co-creating Red Giant Productions, a former animation training program that pipeline over 50 students into receiving full-time hiring opportunities. JG is a voting member for the NAACP Image Awards, he most recently freelanced a letter, that was published in the 2020 Image Awards event magazine. JG is also a USC Cosby/Hanks/Miller Alumni group. J.G. is producing a documentary based on COVID-19 and the present protesting, and creating academic peer review articles, and producing a short form narrative film series on social justice and black families. JG has a BA from UC Berkeley, an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in film, and a Doctorate in Education from Pepperdine University. For his dissertation, J.G. developed a Do-It-Yourself (D.I.Y.) media research project for single urban “mothers of color.” When not producing projects, J.G. is a college instructor and implicit bias trainer.
