ORGANIZATION OF BLACK SCREENWRITERS HOSTS

SCREENWRITING WORKSHOP, SEPT. 24-25

(Los Angeles) – Sept 10, 2010 – The Organization of Black Screenwriters (OBS) brings Hollywood to Harlem when it presents “OBS on Tour New York: Telling Your Story One Script at a Time.” The dynamic workshop designed to help writers on all levels in the development and writing of a feature film or television script, OBS On Tour New York will be held at the College of New Rochelle’s Rosa Parks Campus, 144 W. 125th St. in Harlem on Sept. 24 – 25.

The workshop includes two tracks, one for feature film writing and one for television writing. The full price for each workshop is $190 and $150, respectively. Individually-priced sessions are also available. Visit www.obswriter.com.

According to OBS President Jennifer Williams, the feature film writing workshop will focus on creating the high concept, commercial movie script, which has a universal story line, a unique twist and mass appeal. The television writing workshop will provide instruction on writing a spec (or speculative) script for a show already on television or an original pilot script for a new show concept.

“We have a comprehensive curriculum that takes writers from start to finish, from the initial idea to a completed script. We show those with a sincere desire to write how to create the best screenplay they possibly can,” she said.

Topics include loglines, outlines, beat sheets, story structure, story flow, conflict, character descriptions and character arcs.

“The workshop is very hands on. We encourage writers to bring their ideas, projects and questions. We will provide feedback and solutions to help move their projects forward. Our goal is to teach writers what they need to know to enter the competitive world of screenwriting” Williams said.

The sessions will be taught by an expert cadre of OBS writers who have either successfully completed writing fellowships, sold scripts, have screenwriter credits, have scripts that have been produced and/or are readers who are paid by major studios or production companies to read and recommend scripts for purchase. Speakers will share information and insight gained from their experiences in the entertainment industry.
