Will OBS teach me how to write?
- OBS membership offers continuous opportunities for writers
to learn more about the craft of screenwriting and the business
of writing - in fact, that is part of our mission. OBS also
expects a very basic level of knowledge and proficiency from its
members regarding script formatting, length standards, etc., and
new general members are expected to submit a completed script
through script development within nine months of
joining the organization. OBS membership provides
many resources and
offers
benefits in achieving that goal.
I've been a professional WGA screenwriter for many years. Will
I get much benefit from joining OBS and/or attending meetings?
- Yes. OBS meetings and workshops offer a level of discussion,
learning, networking, and information sharing beneficial to
writers at various stages in their careers.
I can't access the Member Section or Industry Section. Why
is that?
- These sections are password-protected and those passwords
will be issued to the appropriate persons in the near future.
The Member Section is open only to current OBS members whose
membership dues are
paid and current.
- The Industry Section is open only to industry professionals
who have requested and/or been granted access through OBS
officers and administration.
- In the coming days and weeks you
will be hearing updated information about the status of these
sections.
Can OBS hook me up with this
executive/agent/manager/actor:_______?
- OBS arranges meetings only for members and contest winners
based on the needs of the opportunity offers we've received, the
specific requests of industry professionals, the discretion of
OBS officers, or awards stipulations (in the case of contest
winners). There are opportunities for members to network at OBS
meetings and workshops. Through our upcoming
Industry Section on this website,
industry professionals will be able to contact OBS members
directly at their discretion. Only current members who choose to
do so will be listed in the Writer's Directory in the Industry
Section.
I've called or emailed and have not heard back from anyone yet.
Why is that?
- As with most entertainment industry-related entities, OBS
consistently receives a large number of inquiries via email or
phone call. Depending on the time of year and/or what OBS events
are currently in process, it might take a while before someone
is able to respond. Also, when leaving contact information via
phone or online form, make sure your return phone number or
email address is slowly stated or correctly written. We appreciate your patience and apologize
for any inconvenience. Most questions we receive have answers
that can be found easily on our website. If you have a question,
please first search our website or
our
Facebook page for answers.
